6. external image arrow-10x10.png - Revisiting our 2nd term
A CHALLENGE TO YOUR IMAGINATION.
Who wants to join me?
"Every teacher has his or her Treasure Chest. Each Treasure Chest is different - but precious. It contains symbolic reminders of why our job is so important, of what we bring to it in terms of knowledge, skill, personality and who we are. It contains symbols of vital lessons we have learned along the way and gentle reminders of things we mustn't forget."So, each treasure chest is personal and inspirational. A. First, guess what I keep in mine!!!! Open it, peep inside and take out some of my "precious":)) You may think of music, books, people, things, images... And, by the way, why have I chosen these sea elements to decorate my treasure chest?

PLease, EDIT the page and post your comments!!!!!!!:))

In my opinion, if I remember this last term and year well, I may have the ability to state one or two things about you. Pardon me, if I am wrong.
Firstly, let's talk about your family:
You daughters are far away, however, you still manage to see them and be there for them in the important and amazing moments of their life.
That means that they are the most important people in your life, just like every mom's life (at least the ones who care).
Secondly, books and movies:
I know for sure that you love sci-fi movies and you have mentioned your favourite author some months ago. However, I can't remember...
Thirdly, passions:
I realised that you love to teach, to be a role model, to leave a mark in this world and to be distinguished. That is what a true teacher should want, at least in my opinion.

In terms of me, the student called Matilde Mafalda who is excitingly waiting for Easter to receive a present from my new godmother, I actually have a treasure chest.
It is not like yours with sea elements, but is a box that my friends gave me a while back. Since that they, I store there everything that means the world to me. There are objects, letters, texts, texts and more texts, lucky charms and also postcards. When I am feeling down, I like to go there and remind myself that there are amazing, tremendous and fantastic people in this world, who actually deserve my love and support.
It has a strong feeling attached to it.

Although, if you ask me about my guilty pleasures, I have to admit, I am a nerd.
I absolutely love books and everything that they mean. Its power power, its way of describing things and people and that feeling that you have when you have been reading a book for quite a long time is tremendous. It seems like you are in a whole new world!
Giving some examples of my absolute favourites, I can mention "The Hunger Games" thrilogy by Suzanne Collins, "Looking for Alaska" by John Green, "Jane Eyre", a classic, by Charlotte Bronte, "Amor de Perdição" by Camilo Castelo Branco, also a classic, and, for instance, the one I am currently reading "Games of Thrones".
In terms of series, I can consider myself an addict. For example, Prison Break, Gossip Girl, The external image arrow-10x10.png Diaries, The Originals, NCIS, Grey's Anatomy,Glee and Prety Little Liars. I could be here writing for years, but I think that this is enough.
Now, please, tell me everything about you!

Matilde Santana, 10thF, 16

Continuing what Matilde was saying you told us that one of your daughters studied in Scotland, it was something like that. Recently you also said that you have already done an inter-rail alone and it was kinda of scary causa there are bad guys on the streets. You also shared with us that you recently became a grandmother and that your grandson lives with their parents in Netherlands or Belgium. In relation to the sea elements, I guess that you´re like all of us and you love beach and VACATIONS!
In terms of the classes, I loved, and let me tell why. We are more and more connected to technology, we deal with technology every single day. By talking about those subjects it was very easy for us to "listen" because we relate ( identify ourselves) with them.
We talked about recent things but always with our minds on what could happen in the future and that brought our imagination to life, made us think in things that we haven´t thought yet.
Another thing that a like was that idea that English is all about grammar and those types of things. One of the main problems that we face when we speak with English persons is that sometimes we block and we don´t know what to say. And is important for us to develop that skill and I consider that was what we have done.
The debats, the classes, all that contributed to that. That´s my opinion.

My treasure chest, hmmmm, well, I don´t have one

Pedro Bonito Baptista 10F n18

My colleagues have already mentioned all aspects regarding the family and life of the teacher. In my opinion, the connection between the teacher and her family is huge, and you can see that in the way she talks about them. Also, because of the fact that her family's happiness brings happy moments to the teacher's life - A mother's love; she is happy for her daughter's life.
She loves to travel and see new places, hence the association to the sea connected to the knowledge of new sites and vacation, and also because it is where the real treasures lie. I believe that everything that she loves and has is saved "in a sea of feelings", where the treasures of your life are.
As for me, I usually do not travel, but I love playing football, being with friends, and watch action movies. I especially like the actors Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, ... Regarding the world of football, SLB is the best and so I would like to go see a external image arrow-10x10.png at the Stadium of Light. All of this is part of my treasure chest, and that's it.

Ricardo Loureiro, 10ºF, nº22

As many of my friends mentioned, you are already grandmother, which is a good thing, in my opinion, and you have a daughter living in Scotland, I think. However, it's not the distance between you that stops the connection, and for me it's a symbol of love from you. Moreover, you are spetacular, I mean, you make us confortable in the classes, and that's why we feel that we can count on you and we feel a bigger connection with you than with other teachers. And I think that's one of the keys that make us like English. I know that we have serious moments where we have to learn, but there are also moments where we can have fun and where we can have fun subjects to talk :) This ambition to teach us and the love you have from your family is what define you.
In relation to me, I love playing games with my closest friends till 6 a.m. xD I also like watching tv, for example Shark Tank and Snooker (favourite sport), and watching action or comedy movies, like The Tourist (my favourite, with my two favourite actors: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie), The Explandables (that joins all the action heros <33) and Rush Hour (the amazing comedy trilogy with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker). About Tv series, Breaking Bad is defenitely the best, and Bryan Cranston is the GOD. One thing that I have to improve is that I'm addicted to everything that i consider my favourite (basically my favourite sportsman and actors). And I do not accept well when they lose. And I really admire the ones who can do it. That's a small piece of me and I hope you like it.

B. Think about everything we've done this term either in the English classes, or on the WIKI. Tell me the activities / lessons / topics you loved/liked, didn't mind and those you simply disliked, or even hated... Please, state your opinions and justify them :)))

I loved the debate in which i was president :D because i got away with a swear word and not only that but it was our first time has a class doing it (the debate xD).

I was not happy with the amount of works we had to do for this term :( however they are very good learning exercises (still think TV and games do a better job :p) and we managed to execute them good despite the amount of time given and the other subjects activities, like P.E. which takes a lot of our free time, just kidding :>

To sum up i enjoyed your classes even if there were goof times more than it should :(, i kindly ask all my classmates to try and behave better for this next term. Lets go out with a bang (a quiet bang ;) ) and hope that this wonderfull teacher sticks with us.

P.S. I had to make my message bigger cuse it was nothing compared to the others :(

Ricardo Santos 10ºF nº23

So, I think that our classes are quite good. We are always talking in English! Something that I m not used to do! I've never spoken so much english before in my life! In before years, I just made tests and a few oral presentations, but this year, I'm improving due to the fact that we are always speaking english in classes !
To start whit the major topic, I think that Matilde, Pedro and Ricardo have already said all the other things that I would probably say about you DEAR TEACHER and about our classes ! So, now, more about me:
I do not have a real treasure chest as our sweet teacher and Matile (Mafalda) do! Mine is all over my room (a real mess xD) xD Mine is all over my home :D It is in every single place I have been! Because I love that people I care about feel well when I m around..., and when people are weel, memories are made:D

Now, my stupidity (xD):
As all the people who knows me a little bit knows, I´m a Bon Jovi fan! Some say it's a bullshit, but, I don't care... I've never been supple about my tastes. But, I love other bands too! I love Aerosmith, Geen Day, The script, System of a Down, Guns and Roses, and it is an endless list! I love reading too! I love Harry Potter and I´ve red all the books three times ! And I'm not over about reading it yet! I will read it till my life is finished! I also enjoy reading science books! Yes I am also a nerd!
I love to see series on TV: How I met your mother(greatest serie ever), Castle, The rules of engaigment, The big bang theory (greatest serie ever too xD), Hawaii five-o, NCIS (the normal one and Los Angels), Two and half a man, The mentalist, Shameless, Hannibal, The walking dead, etc. . About movies, of course I love Harry Potter. But I think that the greatest movie ever is: Good Will Hunting! I love that film :D It's about a guy that is realy smart, but he doesn't care about it, and he gets a girlfriend and the story gets into a "vortex". But, for the ones who haven´t seen the movie yet, I'm not gonna be a spoiler, because it is the GREATEST MOVIE EVER! :p

So, I think it's enough for today :p

P.S. I can wait for Easter teacher, but I definitly can't wait for your belgium chocolats :p

Tiago Santos 10ºF nº29

Throughout this period, the activities carried out were various. However, two of them have stood out for the way how they happened. Firstly the debate about robots: the discussion was huge, and each defended on whose side they were. This activity helps us develop our English, though sometimes it can become tricky to intervene (fear of speaking). As for the other activity, I loved it (The power of technology &) Men and technology & Leadership). The fear of it going wrong did not help, but I felt confident once it started.
The films that we saw were good, and I think they caught the attention of everyone. In terms of the less positive aspects, only the ones with tests.
In conclusion, the lessons are fun and there is interaction between "all", in other words, an enjoyable period.

Ricardo Loureiro, 10ºF, nº22

As Tiago Santos said, I think that all characteristics I know about the TEACHER my collegues had already mentioned.

About the English classes, I think that this year was the hardest year of English to me due to the fact that this term and this year was full of works, such as the debates, the oral presentations and the tests. However, in my opinion all this things were not to harm us but to help us for the future. I liked the robots debate and also the rolepay where I was President Cohaagen Coriolanus.

In relation to me, I liked many action movies, series and books. The English classes have a bit of everything I like because our classes had fun, good movies and a well relation between student-TEACHER.

To conclude, I think until now this year was my favourite English year and was the year that I really learn English and I didn´t feel it boring.

Rui Libório, 10thF, nº25

Initially, I would like to state my opinion about having a treasure chest. As you said, teacher, every time you open your own treasure chest, you are able to start a small "trip" throughout your best life experiences and of course, remind the moments with your favourite granchildren, US! However, I don´t have a treasure chest, but I´m sure that you have already lived much more unforgettable experiences than all of us, so I would say that your treasure chest should be full of good memories! In relation to the sea elements in your treasure chest, they are probably there due to the fact that the treasure chests are often associated with pirates, shipwrecks and the seas.
Now, changing the topic, I want to make a short reflexion abou our 2nd term and ,in general, about all the English classes. In the previous years, I wasn´t supposed to speak English all the time in the classes, so the communication teacher-student and student-student was frequently made in portuguese, so our speak capacities were only evaluated on the formal speaking activity and I think that this is the biggest difference between the 9th grade and the 10th grade. Besides that, I think that one of the most important objectives of learning english is preparing us to have an important role in our multicultural world, where the English is the universal language, so our interactive classes are a great help to achieve it.In relation to this term, I would like to emphasize the debate, the roleplay and the roundtable discussion. Firtsly, I really liked the idea of creating a debate related with the future of the human kind and the importance of the robots in that future, so we had to make a complete research about this theme to suport our arguements. Secondly, the roleplay about technology: I loved being Coriolanus and acting like Albano Jerónimo ( at least, I´ve tried !!!! ). I think we were great, but I agree with you, teacher, we should´ve acted more and in the next term we will have the oportunity to improve our performance! Finally, the roundtable disscussion: I consider that it was an original idea, that had estimulated us to participate, move arrond the classroom and share our opinion. Therefore, this term was really great, but now I really want my deserved holydays!! HAPPY EASTER FOR EVERYONE!!

P.S.: I leave you with three musics to "Recall" our study trip to Lisbon :D

Afonso Couto, 10thF, no.1

As has already been said, I think all the characteristics that I know about the professor, my colleagues have already mentioned.
With regard to English lessons I think are good, because we speak English, something that was not usually done in previous years. Due to this I think we are all evolving in the English language and preparing for the future. About the activities that we had done, the ones I liked the most were the debate on the robots and the two roleplays. In my opinion the films we've seen have helped us a lot to these activities, as well as for tests.
About me, I can say I'm a big football fan and my favorite series are: Arrow, The big bang theory, Hawaii five-o, NCIS, ...
I don't have a real treasure chest as our teacher and Matilda (Mafalda).
To summarize, I liked his classes because there were funny moments, there was interaction between all and because it was the year that we really learn English. Happy Easter to all!

Marcelo Pereira, 10thF, no.12

I think all the characteristics that I know about the teacher had already been mentioned. In relation to the English classes I want to say that I like it very much. As my colleagues said this is the hardest year of English we had because we weren’t supposed to speak in English all the time. In our classes we have a bit of everything… We have fun, we watch movies but we also learn.

Filipe Gonçalves, 10thF, no.9

As already said, in fact, this year we talk more in English than in previous years. Furthermore, (I speak for myself) until the 9th grade I never had so much work to do and in classes we just participated (we have never done oral presentations (as the debates), so I think that all these work are certainly great tools to improve my English.
In relation to the treasure chest, my colleagues have mentioned a lot about the teacher . The interpretation I have about the sea elements is, perhaps, the fact that you travel a lot and maybe have the wich to go on a cruise (who knows?)!
In relation to me, all my treasures and special things are in my bedroom (very hidden from everyone!). Sometimes I give there a look because it brings me some comfort and good memories. Regarding the tastes, I can say that they are very similar to those of my colleagues (same series,...) but something that you probably don't know is that I love deserts!!

Rita Antunes, 10thF, no.24

First of all, I want to say that this year has been especially hard, bust also very challenging for me. I agree with my collegues when they say that we had lot of works, that weren't always very good, because we have also works that we have to do for other subjects. Besides that, and in my opinion, these works improved a lot our communication, writing and listening skills, because, for the first time, we actually learned the english language, how to use it and how to take advantages of it. Just like Afonso said, in previous years we weren't supposed to talk all the time in English during the classes, and due to that, our communcation was, sometimes, in Portuguese. I also think, that, just like the teacher said, our participation in classes is getting a little worse than last term, and I'm pleased to know that we have the next term to improve us. Changing the subject and talking about the activies I enjoyed the most, I really liked doing the debate about robots and technology, imporsonating Katniss in the roleplay about power as an end and watching the movie "Hunger Games", because I'm really a fanatic of the thrilogy. The activitie that I dind't like, at all, was watching the movie "Total Recall" because it was too predictable and some characters were boring and totally irrelevant in the film. To conclude, I really think that, until now, this year has been great, full of surprises. I dindn't expect to learn so many new things about the English language, and this is all due to the fact that we have a good relationship with our great teacher, that above all, is our friend!
HAPPY EASTER !! I wish you all get lots of gifts!

Ana Margarida Salvador, 10thF, nº3

I think the classes are always interesting, because we never know what are we going to do the next lesson, due to the variety of activities we have done during the year. And then, we have the funny discussions that make the english lessons so special! <3

Bruno Campos - 10ºF - nº7

I think this year our English skills are getting better than previous years. I also think that we had too much works, oral presentations and debates, but that helps us developing our skills and our spontaneity of speaking in classes. About the movies and debates we watched, I think it was a funny way of learning to. Like it was said before, this year was the hardest because we all had to speak in English, even if it was to explain something. I love the discussions we do at classe because that is what makes English classes look so active and funny. I hope next year it will be like this!

Inês Oliveira - 10ºF - nº10

In my opinion this term was the hardest one and the one that we needed to work harder in all of the English classes that I had. We had to work very hard to be able to make all project works but putting that aside this turm was very pleasant. We had fun in classes we went to the theatre, we watched Total Recall and also listened to musics. All in all this term was a hard one but it also was a very fun one. I hope next term we have fun as we had in tis one!

Bruno Santos - 10ºF nº6

In my opinion, I associate your treasure chest as a good and healthy way of living. There it might be the music, the reading, your family, your work and your friends. I think the teacher keeps surprising us in a good way, besides the big ammount of works that I think we had this term. Overall I think you keep insisting in a an amusing way of teaching, but also professional and hardworking.

João Barros - 10ºF nº11

This Term was quite a big one i think 13 or 14 weeks. There is so mutch thing that we can say oh gosh...:s
First we had the trip! That bus.... To bad we weren't able to see the play there it would have been awesome cause of the acustic but i still was able to understand it a bit. We sang a lot on the bus all the time even at 1 a.m.
We didn't have any other trip unfortunately:( but i hope we do another on the third term
During the rest we studied so hard that we were almost dead in some classes because of how tired we were. I can't belive betwen all this we were still able to have some fun in the weekends.
Now about the english classes we did so many activities on them from simple exercises and texts to group works and viedos. In my opinion i think the teacher should reduce a bit on the number of works, because we had also other works to do from other disciplines.

Now that this term is over i think in general we did well. In a view of myself i think i could have done a little better but what is gone is gone and mistakes we do in the past are lessons for us to the future

Merry Christmas :D nah just kiding Happy HalloweenxD and have a nice Easter to.
Cya "Sócios"!!!

Pedro Afonso - 10ºF nº17

Hello dear Teacher! I think it isn't very hard to notice that you are a person with Culture and well-traveled as a good teacher and dedicated mother ( and grandmother ! ) . Your treasure box must be full of good memories of trips and Also your favorite music bands and favorite authors . I can say we have lots of things in common . I can say I'm also a big fan of rock music and I also like the other tipes , so my favorite bands are Green Day , Queen : D, Nirvana and Imagine Dragons, between and many others . I am also a huge lover of series! I like watching Pretty Little Liars , Criminal series and my favorite one , Game of Thrones !

In terms of what we made this term I think , despite all the work and organizantion we needed , it was also funny. I liked the activities we developed and especially the oral presentation , where we had the oportunity to work with one my favorite movies ad books , " The Hunger Games " ! Oh , I almost forgot to mention , I love movies and my favorit ones are " Big Fish " , " Silver Linings Playbook " ( with Jennifer Lawrensce , the big actriss from The Hunger Games ) and , of corse , " The Hunger Games " and I advise you to watch any of them and I hope you enjoy them has much as I did ! I hope next will be equall to this one or even better ( I will turn sixteen on this Vacacions so I want that as a gift ! ) :) Bye bye and see you next term!

Sofia Cabral nº4 10ºF

In relation to this term, I'm going to be very honest about my opinion. I thing we had too much presentation works and I'd rather have another evaluation test than having to go through all the work of remembering lines to a debate or role play. Besides this, I think my teacher is awesome because she wants the best for her grandchildren!

I hope the next terms test will be as easy as this one!nah, just kidding!Easier if possible of course.

Bye and an happy Easter!

João Vale nº13 10ºF

Hi teacher! I would like to say that the idea of having a treasure box is very inovating. I might say that I never thought about that, but certainly, if I had one, mine wouldn't be that full of great experiences that I'm sure that you lived.

There were certain things that I wasn't expecting to see in classes like the roleplays and the debates, and I confess that, despite the work we had, it was fun to participate and it allowed us to learn a lot more about technology of the present and predictions about the future. Another thing that I wasn't expecting was the relationship student-teacher. You're an amazing teacher, you tell us a little bit about you every day (I know you have two daughters, love sci-fi movies and many other aspects already referred by my colegues), you make the classes fun and make us wanna be in there and envolve. I really appreciate all the work you done. And I'm being as honest as I can.

I have to agree with João in one aspect: I would prefer to do another evaluation test!!

Overall it was a great term, full of experiences and I'm greatfull I could be apart of it!

For all of you: enjoy yor holidays and HAPPY EASTER! :)
